Car pedals are standardized.
The order is always, from left to right, clutch, brake, gas.
Imagine if a new car company created the following pedal order:

The results would be disastrous. The same concept applies to software and file types. If the software knows how to read a file, everything is fine. If the software is used to another type of file, however, it will read the file wrong, and computer disaster occurs.
